Yesterday marks 14 years since our family was faced with the decision of stopping life support for my beautiful sister Kim. It is a decision no family should have to make, but one she and I had discussed on more than one occasion. Kim was a RN at Barnes-Jewish hospital, and her life was all about helping others. She had made it quite clear that if the time ever arose, she would also want that in death. Her oldest son signed the papers, we said our goodbyes, and not one single day has gone by since that I don't miss her. A few weeks later, we got a letter informing us of all the people her organs helped. Kim would have loved that.
