On Sept. 30th. 2008, my only son, Brett, was killed in a car accident. He was 22. When I went to the hospital to identify him, the doctor told me Brett was an organ donor. I didn't know what to say. I was in shock and speechless. That is something we never talked about. He chose the gift of life on his own. A couple months after his death, I received a card that was sent to Mid-America Transplant. It was from a mother in New York who had three children. She said she had received my loved ones corneas and could now see her children. I still have the card and it's one of my most treasured possessions . My son had the most beautiful blue eyes, and when he was in high school was chosen as the person with the prettiest eyes. I miss my son every second of everyday, and wish I didn't have to walk this journey. I do thank God everyday that my son chose to be an organ, tissue and cornea donor. I know that Brett lives on by giving the Gift of Life. He is my hero and I'm so proud of him. I Love you so much son .
