Oh, Mary. She is my twin daughter who lost her life to a severe congenital heart defect, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She was only six months old. She defied so many odds in order to have six months with us, and I am forever so proud of her for teaching me how to love deeper, live fuller and learn to appreciate the smallest things in life we typically overlook.
Mary was a tissue donor. And last week we received one of my most precious, treasured items - a letter, a beautiful letter, from the donor recipient. Reading how much Mary's donation did for this young girl, filled me with such overwhelming emotions, both hard and joyful. There is a piece of my daughter out in the world, providing someone else the gift to do the things that brings them purpose and joy. And for a mother with a broken heart, it brings me so much comfort.
