Casey was a beautiful and smart girl. She lost a daughter, Cadence at age 3.5 months to SIDS. It was very hard on her. Unfortunately, she then suffered with drug addiction. She went on to have a son, Jacoby. The addiction would come and go. On July 20, 2023 we lost her to an accidental overdose. We had just been with her days before and she was so happy and helpful. She had plans for the following week. When she was found the paramedics worked a long time to get a pulse. She was then flown to the hospital. Being a nurse I knew what was coming. She was brain dead.
Casey had signed up to be an organ donor, and I was not surprised. When she lost her baby daughter, Casey had agreed to organ donation, but donation was not possible due to the baby having a fever. I followed through with Casey's wishes. Her heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver were all able to be transplanted. The walk of honor through the hospital was an absolutely amazing experience. She remains in our hearts forever!
